NEMA

Winter is almost in the rearview mirror! And while you might have enjoyed spending the season in the luxe living spaces of the South Loop Chicago apartments at NEMA, it's time to head out and experience the city's vibrant culture as we all get ready for spring to (finally) arrive. Residents of NEMA Chicago are in an ideal location to take in everything from concerts to musicals to comedy shows.

There’s a lot going on as March wraps up, so let's see what there is to do:

Head to a Concert

Music is a big part of the cultural history of Chicago, where new styles of music, such as the blues, grew, flourished, and spread to the rest of the world. The Windy City is home to some of the greatest music legends, ranging from Gene Krupa to Chaka Khan, so it's no surprise that this bastion of music is a must-stop for any music lover.

During the month, catch the soaring and emotional sound of Animal Collective at the Vic Theater. It's the perfect venue for this evocative and experimental band that combines electronic pop with cutting lyrics.

For a decidedly different sound, check out the Avett Brothers at The Chicago Theatre, and bask in their new wave of folk glory as they perform hits like "No Hard Feelings" and "If It's the Beaches."

Get Musical in March

There's almost nothing more exhilarating than live theater. And Chicago is home to some of the best in the country, including Broadway musicals. So, let's go to the theater to see some of the most admired award-winning musicals out there.

In the early 1980s, “Evita” took Broadway by storm, making a legend of Patti LuPone and cementing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s reputation as one of the most innovative, prodigious, and inventive musical theater composers out there. Based on the life of Argentine first lady Eva Perón, the musical, playing at the Drury Lane Theatre, follows her from meager beginnings to life as a glamorous figure of world politics — all set to a jaw-dropping score with memorable numbers like "Don't Cry for Me Argentina."

If you've ever wanted to inhabit your favorite movie, “Moulin Rouge!” is the musical for you. Taking its material from the 2001 Baz Luhrmann film, “Moulin Rouge!” is an immersive and impressive musical, replete with sumptuous sets, dizzying choreography, and a lineup of some of the best pop songs in history. You might be unable to stay in your seat when the show's vibrant mix of hits begins. Just get ready to sing along. See it at the Nederlander Theatre.

Catch a Comedy Show

We could all use a good laugh — especially these days. Luckily, Chicago's comedy scene is thriving. On almost any night of the week, you can get tickets to the city's iconic improv and sketch shows. But this month, get ready for some headlining stand-up.

On March 25, legendary comedian and late-night host Jay Leno takes to the stage. One of the most celebrated stand-up comics, Leno cut his teeth in the Los Angeles comedy scene of the 1980s and took over for “The Tonight Show” host Johnny Carson when he stepped down.

For fans of British humor, Russell Howard is also stopping in the city for a show. Famous for his comedy specials, fans will get to appreciate his wild mixture of physical comedy, social commentary, and witty remarks in person.
